This was the sermon that I preached at the St Andrews Day service - attended by the Hunter Valley Scots Society. I wanted to point away from Scotland to Christ - as Andrew did - so we looked at John 1 and John 12 - and the impact of the Gospel on Scotland and Australia today. And we ask do countries matter?

1 John ch.2 v.9-11 - What's the real test of being a Christian? Can you be a Christian and hate other Christians? Do we have to like every single Christian brother and sister?

Ch 2 v.5-6 - "I don't follow a book - I follow Jesus....I live for Jesus ..but I don't agree with some of the things he said"...John shows how that doesn't make any sense....

Ch 2 v. 3-4 - How do we know if we are Christians? What is the standard? John gives a surprising answer.....

John 8:48-59 - Jesus continues his debate with the religious leaders by making a series of astonishing claims - each one more offensive, more challenging and more revolutionary for us than the one before!

1 John 2:2 - What does the cross mean? How can Christ be the atoning sacrifice? What is propitiation? Did Jesus atone for the sins of every single individual? Why is this such a beautiful doctrine for us all?

1 John 2:1 - What happens when we sin? How can we deal with it? What is our greatest comfort? We have an advocate....

Colossians ch. 4:5-6 - Who wants to be evangelised? How do you tell the Good News to people who do not want to hear it....? In this sermon we look at the methods of evangelism for the 21st Century....

Ch 1 v.10 - Do you think that God is holy, just, loving....? Do you believe in sin? The two go together....

Ch. 1 v.9 - Being conscious of sin is only the beginning. How can we get rid of it? And how can we be sure?
